Stairs

Lately I have been taking pictures using my phone. The cool thing about having a phone with a camera, is that you don’t have to worry about settings, lenses, and such. All you pretty much need to do is pay attention to light, frame the shot, and click!

Taking pictures daily using a phone with a camera has helped me develop a photographic eye which will in turn help improve my eye whenever I do “real” photoshoots.

So heres the deal with these images. I edited most of the images using PS Express as well as instagram. I try to shoot and post my images on my twitter feed so if you are a sucker for pain, follow me and I assure you I will bombard you with lots and lots of images. Oh, and I almost forgot, it might sound easy for me to say but you don’t have to have an iphone to take good pictures or just pictures for that matter. Grab a camera, any camera and go outside and make pictures, ok?

Travel: Rural Tennessee + North Carolina

October 29th, 2011

Though Texas is my home state I consider Tennessee to be my second home. I lived there for about 2 years and every time I drive or fly into The Volunteer State, my heart and soul skips a beat and then feels right at home. Tennessee is such an amazingly beautiful state especially during Summer and Autumn.  The rolling mountains aka Appalachian mountains remind me so much of the small hill town I grew up in called Ngong.

Here are some of the images I made while I was in East Tennessee (my ocha) and North Carolina. Ok, let me just shut up and show you the images. Enjoy!

American flag + signs

Small Town Post office. Man, this town has got to be small!

Couple rowing together in the afternoon.

A hearty meal my lover and I cooked. I forgot to photograph the Ugali that she allowed me to make.

I asked for an espresso. They handed me this small tiny cup and I was like “What!!!! Its so small! I want my money back.” Now I know not to ever order espresso. What a rip off.

Down Town Asheville, North Carolina. This place is the Austin, Texas of North Carolina. All the artists, all the weirdos, all my buddies hang out here. I loved this place.

So there you have it! Thanks for reading this entry.

Michelle and I go waaaaaaaaay back. Not too way back but kinda way back. It was awesome that I got to meet with her to make these images. I really loved catching up and collaborating with her to make these images. A photo shoot is as good or as bad as the shooter and subject make it. This right here was an awesome shoot.

Michelle, the sky is the limit. Do your thing girrrrrl, follow your dreams and remember that it’s ok to be the originally cool person that you are. Thanks for letting me shoot you!

Portrait: Ndia

October 4th, 2011

I got to shoot this fine lady when she was in town. I owe my existence to her and I felt that the least I could do was to shoot her…not with a gun but with a camera.

Whenever I think of Ndia I think of a lady with a giving and caring heart. She is also young at heart. In face the other day I found out that she had bought a Wii just coz she thought, “it would be cool.”

Please enjoy these few images of the woman who made me.

A few Saturdays ago  I met with Kush (the dude above) for a man date. Yes, I said it, I sometimes go on what some people here call “man dates” with .  Hey, stop giggling! We talked about our feelings, hugged and then headed out to do a fake CD cover photoshoot.

You see I had this half baked idea of photographing a musician for an imaginary CD jacket and Kush fit the bill. You see, Kush is a very talented musician and singer. I mean, the guy has a voice that rivals that British ‘never been kissed’ lady who sang that song “I dream a dream of time gone by.” So here are the shots that we made on that Saturday.

Thanks Kush for taking the time to pose for me.

Portrait: Mildred

July 11th, 2011

I find it really refreshing photographing people who seem comfortable being in front of the camera.

I met Mildred and her sister in down town Plano right when the sun was setting coz frankly, if the shoot was earlier wed have come out of it baked and sun tanned by the Texas 100+ degree sun and humidity.

Thank you Mildred for doing such a great job posing. I wish you well in your modeling career. Beatrice, thank you for holding the flash for me and for being the default makeup artist.

I hope you all enjoy the images coz I enjoyed making them.

Portrait: Stevie Drumz

May 29th, 2011

I was itching to photograph a musician so I called a friend who knew a friend who plays drums. Stevie Drumz met me in Downtown Plano. Drumz is a drummer who learned his skill by watching people play drums, buying video tutorials and by practicing.

I really liked his chilled out personality and sense of humor and I could photograph him any day.

If you need a skilled, talented and very professional drummer call him at this number: 1 817.495.6019. So without any further ado check out some of the images he and I made.

Portrait: Father

May 24th, 2011

Both me and my father were in our late 20′s when we picked up cameras and began making images. I have hundreds of slides of images that he took  way back when we lived in Kapoeta, Sudan.

Though my father is funny and talkative he also has a quiet and thoughtful side. That side is the side I captured when I made these images. I love my father to death and I am truly lucky to have a father who listens, cares and lives a life of humility and service. I love you dad.

Portrait: Paul

May 1st, 2011

Interesting story. In 2007 Paul contacted me and asked if I could photograph him. I photographed him and to my surprise he paid me for the shoot! Paul was pretty much my very first client.

I contacted him a few days ago with an idea for a shoot. What I really wanted to do was test a new softbox on a black belt martial artist. Paul was game for the shoot and these are the images he and I made. Enjoy!
